I woke up early to take the metro train to where I would pick up my rental car. I got a brand of car I had never heard of, but it seemed to be popular in Spain. I loved being back in the drivers seat of a car! It was nice to sit, listen to music and enjoy a solitary drive. The drive was beautiful through the country side! Rolling hills, flowers, and occasionally a castle on the top of a hill. I enjoyed picturing that I was in Game of Thrones traveling through the Targaryen lands (that would be regionally accurate).
I was headed to Costa Brava, specifically to a beach in Begur that a friend recommended. It was easy to get there, but I had a hard time finding the beach. Finally, I realized that I just needed to park and walk to it. The beach was intentionally hard to find because it was small, quiet, and mostly just locals. Oh, and my friend forgot to tell me you can sunbathe nude there…. ha. ha.
It was a nice hot day which was perfect since the water was absolutely freezing. Also, I noticed after diving in, that the sea water was even more salty than I’ve experienced before. It was a hard rock bottom versus a sandy bottom, which was kind of unique. There were cliffs surrounding the beach and it was the perfect place to lay and read for a few hours. Eventually, I decided to head back but I stopped along the way at this town that had a small castle in the middle of it. Again, I felt like I had been thrown back in time. Since it was about 4pm at this time, there was no one really around as this true Catalonian town was taking a Siesta it appeared.
Once I returned, I changed and then met up with friends to watch the Magic Fountains. I wasn’t sure if I would be impressed, since I’ve seen the fountains at the Bellagio in Vegas, but I must say I sat there for an hour and never looked away. It was beautiful and the music was recognizable which made it more fun. Afterwards, we stopped and had some tapas (pizza, salad, leeks, ham and tomato bread and potatoes bravas). Once dinner finished, it was already midnight.
